Cars: The Start of a Great Trilogy

Just like most movies so far, Cars was a great movie for its target audience: kids. I loved the movie at the time and I thought the concept was so cool and everything toys was Cars related.

The movie starts with a race car who is living life in the fast lane. This car, who is named Lightning McQueen, is obsessed with winning the Piston cup. The first scene in the movie is the last race for the cup but it ends in a three way tie. They are going to have another race in California later. McQueen wants Mac his truck driver to get to California quickly and pushes him too hard. Mac falls asleep on the road and McQueen, who also falls asleep, falls out of the truck and ends up ripping up the street of a small town called Radiator Springs. McQueen is put on trial and is made to fix the street he ruined. McQueen only cares about fixing the road as fast as he can to get to California. He does it too fast and the street is still not fixed so he is ordered to rip the street up and make it again. The longer McQueen is there, the more he realizes how nice the people of the town are.

He finishes the street and almost forgets about the race. He’s friends with everyone and helps their dying small businesses. Doc Hudson who’s kind of like the head of the town was a race car back in his hay day. He calls news reporters to tell him where he is so he can leave the town. McQueen sadly goes to finish his last race and plans to do it without his pit crew who left him. In a turn of events the cars from Radiator Springs show up as his pit crew and Doc Hudson puts on his old racing paint for the stadium to see. McQueen looks like he’s gonna win but when one of the the race cars, Chick Hicks bumps into the third race car and knocks him of the track so he can’t finish. McQueen stops right before the finish line and goes in reverse to push the wrecked car to the finish line. Everyone commends McQueen’s actions and although he won, everyone hates Chick Hicks fro bumping the car on purpose.

McQueen and his best friend Mater are a great duo. The characters are funny and the plot is easy for younger kids to follow. It’s a hard movie for me to re watch because it’s not the best Pixar plot out there, but it’s definitely fun to watch the first time. Owen Wilson is a great voice actor for McQueen and the voice clicks with the character well. I give this movie a 7/10.
